Homag Centateq T-700

One of the reasons for selecting the CENTATEQ T-700 was the growth of compact laminate components we are now producing each week. To successfully manufacture high end detailed components and large volume work surfaces, with this material, it requires a large, robust and technically advanced machining centre. You only get this performance with the big gantry CNCs and the T-700 is perfect for us. We specified a 4-axis model with extra tooling carousels for bespoke applications to give us the capacity, flexibility and edge we wanted.

Homag Centateq E-700

The CENTATEQ E-700 is another powerful gantry CNC machine, but with the benefit of adding an EVA/PO edge banding unit. This gives us the ability to run a multitude of materials including the challenging 3D acrylic edging, setting us apart from our competition. As with the T-700 we opted again for a 4-axis model as this enables both synchronous or independent processing of panels depending on configuration.

Along with our new thermoformer and vacuum press we will be able to offer you 5 axis 3D solid surface. If you are not familiar with the process it involves heating up a sheet of solid surface in our thermoforming oven. Once the solid surface reaches the correct temperature it becomes malleable. It is then transferred to a 5 axis machined mould on the vacuum press. Once the vacuum cover is secure and the machine switched on, the pressure inside the press forms the sheet of solid surface to the former. Once cooled the solid surface takes on the former’s shape whilst retaining all of its original properties.

This collection of machines will really allow us to push the boundaries of panel fabrication, for not just us as manufacturers but designers and architects as well. The capabilities of both material, Starbank knowledge and expertise as well as designer’s imaginations allows us to bring their concepts to the life.

These lifts will mainly assist in the production of our Shield Fire Doors. Due to the reduction in manual handling our staff are less laboured when requiring to load and offload the fire doors onto machinery, creating a safer working environment for them. The lifts should also reduce any non conformance’s that could occur from improper handling of the panels as the vacuum lifts utilise soft rubber pads as contact points on the doors. These kind of quality control improvements are essential on delicate items such as fire doors, where slight defects could result in failure of the door during a real fire.

Postforming digital print laminate in the past usually caused the digital image to ‘crack’ or ‘spread’ along the postfomined edge, meaning the final piece does not meet the standards that we will release to our customers. With the advances in post formable HPL and working with our suppliers we have been able to overcome these issues and can now offer high quality postformed digital print laminates through our GoDigital design team as well as our production staff at Starbank.

A beautifully designed piece of furniture drawn on a paper may get the thumbs up but working out how to construct it may be more of a headache. We are here to take away that headache and work with you and the knowledge and experience of our staff to work out how to realise your designs from a fabrication and assembly stand point.

A real bug bear of ours and of designers was achieving a strong enough mitred joint without the use of cams and pins, as this results in the cam head being on show on the inside face of the joint. We have scoured the market and found a solution where no fixings can be seen, and only requires a small pilot hole on the inside of one panel to fix both component part together. The solution is Lamello®.

We have sourced these fixings and acquired all he necessary programming sequences needed to offer you a mitred joint of any angle within the fixings tolerances. They have proved a great success with our current customers who previously may have compromised on their design in order to create a piece of furniture that worked correctly. With Starbank you don’t have to compromise any more where mitred joints are concerned.

The Homag BMG 512 is a £400k investment from Starbank to ensure our customers keep getting the quality of products that they are used to in an ever changing market of trends and styles. This machine will also help Starbank to broaden the types of panel materials that we fabricate. Our two new divisions for plastics and solid surface will come in to their own with the use of this machine. Starbank are known to keep evolving and adapting to situations and the Homag BMG 512 is the start of a larger investment programme to ensure Starbank are always the UK’s preferred panel product fabricator.

Starbank’s latest investment is the FH6 Cut-To-Size Saw linked to the VS16 Board Storage Retrieval System. This investment has improved working practices and reduced the time involved in sorting and finding boards to cut. As boards can be stored in a ‘chaotic’ random order floor space has been optimised with the ability to store up to 2500 boards. The storage retrieval can feed both saws therefore reducing the manual handling involved and improving overall productivity.

As the software for the storage retrieval system understands what jobs are needed and in what order, the storage retrieval can independantly start to organise the boards within the holding area overnight to ensure that they are close at hand and in order for the next day’s jobs. This efficient process enables Starbank to more effectively get jobs out without the need for extra operators.
